Thermostat Optimization Plus (TOP) Saver Settings

Savings for Every Season:

Make sure your thermostat is set to help you save all year long. Start with the basics:

  • SUMMER: For the hours you’re home, program your thermostat to a comfortable temperature, like 75 degrees Fahrenheit. When you're away from home, set it to a higher temperature, like 80 F. Your smart thermostat will determine the optimal time to start cooling your home so that it’s comfortable by the time you return.
  • WINTER: Program your thermostat to a lower temperature when you are away from home—we suggest 62 F. Based on your set schedule, your smart thermostat will determine the optimal time to start heating your home for it to be at your programmed comfort temperature when you return.

It’s your house, and we want you to be comfortable. So be sure to adjust your smart thermostat’s schedule when you feel uncomfortable. If you turn off the schedule altogether, you’ll start using more energy than if you adjust the schedule.

Choose Settings for Your Lifestyle:

You can take a modest or robust approach to energy savings—whatever works best for you, your household, and your savings goals.

A modest but effective tactic you can try is to set a schedule with setback. These options keep you comfortable but help you save energy and money if you leave the house on weekdays. You can even save if you are at home all day. Here are some suggested settings based on seasonality.
