Many Maryland homeowners have the potential to save hundreds of dollars in energy costs each year. Those homeowners, however, are typically unaware of what they can do to control these costs and often feel powerless to make the necessary changes. SMECO’s Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (AHPwES) Program provides income-eligible homeowners a much easier and more affordable way to invest in energy-efficiency improvements to their home, to reduce their energy consumption and help them live comfortably all year long.
For those who qualify, the AHPwES Program provides incentives up to $4,300 for qualifying energy-efficiency improvements completed within single-family homes that are heated or cooled using SMECO supplied electricity.
It all starts with a home energy audit conducted by the AHPwES approved contractor. The audit provides you with a whole-house review of where your home is wasting energy. You will learn the root cause of any drafts, inconsistent temperatures, heating and cooling system failures, or other problems you may be experiencing.
Here are the simple steps you can take to reduce your energy use and make your home more comfortable with the Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program:
- Apply for the program
- Schedule a $100 Home Energy Audit
- Develop a list of improvements; Reserve incentives
- Apply for a low-interest loan to help pay for the work (optional)
- Complete the work
