SMECO Board announces new president and CEO

The SMECO Board announced the appointment of a new president and CEO. Sonja M. Cox, who has been serving as SMECO’s senior vice president of Financial, Economic, and Employee Services and Chief Financial Officer, will assume the role of SMECO’s president and CEO on March 1, 2020. She will be the fifth CEO in the cooperative’s 83-year history and will join the ranks of women who serve as managers at 77 of the 941 electric cooperatives across the nation.

The 18th annual Gaff-n-Go Rodeo will be held May 16, 2020

Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss the chance to see your SMECO linemen compete in events that test their agility, skill, and safe work practices—talents vital to the work they perform daily. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the skill, strength, and respect for electricity it takes to be a utility lineman.

This event is free to the public and it is held at the Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia.

SMECO is hosting its 9th annual bike ride through Southern Maryland on June 6, 2020. Sign up for the 75-, 47-, or 29-mile routes.
