Convenience in the palm of your hand
In January 2014, SMECO introduced a text messaging service that enables interested customer-members to report outages and receive outage notifications via text. That service has been expanded to offer billing and payment text messaging.
Subscribers will receive a text alert when their bill statement is ready, a link to their bill on their mobile device, and texts reflecting payment status (received or canceled). Additionally, customer-members will have the ability to text the word "PAY" in order to pay their SMECO bill. If you wish to pay by text, you must first set up a virtual wallet online to record bank or credit card information.
The text to pay feature can only be used to pay the entire account balance on accounts that do not have a past-due balance.
Customer-members who were registered for the outage notification service prior to January 2015 can subscribe to the added billing and payment texts by simply texting SUB to 76326 (SMECO).
New subscribers will automatically receive the outage and billing text services. To sign up, simply text REG (for register) to 76326 (SMECO). You will then receive a text from SMECO that will ask for your account number or phone number, and your zip code. Once you've signed up, you will be able to send and receive SMECO-related texts.
This service is free, but standard message and data rates may apply through your cell phone carrier.
